About me

I love starting with a blank page and bringing beautiful designs to life on the web.

I've been a developer for almost 8 years, and I absolutely love what I do. I have a passion for learning, and in development there is always something new to learn. There is something very satisfying about being able to solve a problem.

I'm an avid reader (checkout my Goodreads profile) and would much rather read my book than watch tv. I love music, philosophy, stoicism, meditation, yoga, circus, and gaming. I spend a lot of time in the gym. I enjoy spending time in nature, and connecting with people.

Skills

Senior front-end developer

I am extremely passionate about delivering high quality code. In my time at Screenmedia I've been responsible for widescale improvements in their design and development processes. Day to day, I work closely with UX planners, designers, project managers, and developers, to create fully responsive websites that work well on any screen.

Aside from the development aspect of my job, I've learned the importance of being able to communicate well with colleagues and clients. I'm known for being able to describe development concepts "in English". Creating a website is a very collaborative and creative process, with an emphasis on team work, and this is one of the things I enjoy the most about my job.

Development community & open-source

I like to be active in the development community, and as a result I started and continue to organise the Vue.js Glasgow meetup event. I also attend the Glasgow Umbraco Users Group and Ladies of Code meetup events.

I contribute to open-source projects when I can, and have recently made 2 contributions to the Umbraco code base. I also enjoy writing blog posts.

I work with

HTML, Sass, Less, CSS, JavaScript, Gulp.js, Vue.js, Umbraco, Razor

Mentorship

I enjoy helping others and have worked as a mentor to various junior and graduate developers and interns throughout my career.

In 2019 I’ve been a mentor to 5 interns - one per month - as part of the BIMA and TRC Inspiring Digital Leaders programme. This involved working with graduates from various different backgrounds and skillsets. The majority of the interns had no coding experience, which was both challenging and rewarding for me as a mentor. During our time together, each of them built a website and deployed it to a staging site via Netlify. Many of them have expressed that they want to continue learning to code, and some of them have started attending local coding meetup groups.

To find out more, here's some feedback from Rosa, Julia, and Evan on their experience with the programme.

Writing

I enjoy writing articles in my spare time. Here are a few articles I've written on SCSS, Vue.js, and more.
